Penang Island should be in your visiting list when you travel to Malaysia or South East Asia. You will discover Penang Island a truly fascinating destination for amusement, local food, shopping, nightlife, and sightseeing. Georgetown, the state capital of Penang, has the oldest municipal history in Malaysia, and it is included in Unesco's World Heritage listing.

Tourist Attractions of Penang: You can start your tour in Penang Island from its sandy beaches at Batu Ferringhi or you can take a short boat trip to an uninhabited island for a day of excitement in the sand at Monkey Beach. Other famous tourist attractions of Penang Island are the unique Snake Temple, the Butterfly Farm which is a home to 120 species of exotic butterflies, the century old Kek Lok Si Buddhist Pagoda Temple, the historical Forts Cornwallis, the big reclining Buddha at Wat Chayamangkalaram and the invigorating Botanic Garden.

Your visit to Penang Island will not be complete if you do not explore the historical Georgetown. You can walk around the streets of Georgetown and admire its rich heritage of private mansions, colonial homes, Chinese pre-war houses and public buildings. Remember not to miss out the Little Indian, Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, Chinatown, Khoo Kongsi and Peranakan Museum. You can also join a local tour to the Malay village to see the traditional batik factory, visit the world's famous Royal Selangor and the 25-acre Tropical Fruit Farm. In the evening you can experience a trishaws ride at Georgetown. You can stop by any of the open-air food stalls for the famous Penang food.

The hotels are scattered around the island, and the most popular locations are in the Gurney Drive, the Batu Ferringhi beach and in the heart of the downtown. It will take anyway between 35 to 60 minutes to travel from hotels in Batu Ferringhi to the popular shopping malls. The famous shopping malls are The Queensbay Mall, The Gurney Plaza and The Komtar shopping complex.
